In the fall of 1999 I audio recorded 50,000 consecutive minutes of my waking life.

500 tapes @ 100 min. ea. = 50,000 Minutes.

The taping process lasted a little over two months. The recordings were exhibited completely unedited with the audience given complete reign over the tapes for playback and total access to the audio documentation of my life during this time.

50,000 Minutes explores the narrowing line between documentary, reality programming, and surveillance. Revealing the monotony of unedited daily life, many of the tapes are unbearable to listen to. Created before the contemporary onslaught of reality programming, 50 000 Minutes shows just how tedious "Real" reality programming can be.

I still plan to convert the recordings to MP3, making the collection available in its entirety online.
